Overview
Sikkim, nestled in the Himalayas, is a treasure trove of natural wonders, from towering peaks to serene lakes and vibrant flora and fauna.
Sikkim is a small yet enchanting state in the northeastern Himalayas, renowned for its diverse and pristine natural beauty. Its landscape transitions dramatically, from subtropical forests in lower valleys to temperate forests of oak and chestnut, and finally to alpine zones adorned with rhododendrons, juniper, and fir. Dominating this terrain is Mount Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak, which holds significant cultural and religious importance for the local communities. The region boasts over 220 high-altitude wetlands and glacial lakes, including the sacred Gurudongmar and Khecheopalri Lakes, as well as the popular Tsomgo Lake. Lush forests, abundant rivers like the Teesta and Rangeet, and numerous waterfalls add to the visual spectacle, making Sikkim a true paradise for nature lovers. Sikkim’s rich biodiversity is safeguarded within protected areas such as Khangchendzonga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and several wildlife sanctuaries, playing a vital role in conserving rare species like the Red Panda.
